So a friend of ours recently requested a suggestion for an RPG because she wants to know what all the fuss is about... problem is that she only has an XBox... and the only system we DON'T have is XBox... so... I'm not sure what to suggest. I always kind of considered XBox's big seller to be the FPSes (which is why I don't own one... I play those on the PC). But yeah, so um... any suggestions for a good RPG on XBox? :)

Re: XBox RPGs?
Tue, September 13, 2005 - 7:00 PMoh....and jade empire! only on xbox.
i know fable was supposed to be this faboo new most wonderrific rpg ever. but it only kept me & my brother busy for one weekend. my rpgs are better off too complex bordering on confusing (morrowind) than too short. -

Re: XBox RPGs?
Tue, September 13, 2005 - 7:13 PMFable was the first one I noticed that I had heard good things about, but I've never played it myself so I wasn't sure. I haven't played Morrowind either. Actually the only one I've played on Amazon's list of XBox RPGs was Bard's Tale and while it's a wonderful game, I don't know if it's appropriate for a first-timer. And she is QUITE the first-timer. I'm not sure whether I should try to get her something turn-based or action-oriented. I feel like turn-based would be easier for someone not used to having to have speedy button-pressing reaction times. Or is that a silly theory? -

Re: XBox RPGs?
Tue, September 13, 2005 - 7:30 PMWell, you aren't on a solo-mission dear. This is something we can work on together. I still think we should just play some things while she's over, like Crystal Chronicles (so we can back her up) or one of your turn-based games, as Unlimited Saga was both annoying & confusing & highly NOT recommended.

Re: XBox RPGs?
Tue, September 13, 2005 - 7:32 PMdepends....how are her reaction times in other areas?
if she is naturally dextrous in both hands and brain, she will catch on fast. though she may at first experience some frustrations, this quick pick-up time would make it worthwhile to avoid the eternal frustration turn-based systems will provide later.
if, however, she will have to begin honing heretofore unused skillsets not only in gaming but in general, she might prefer the extra thinktime provided.
then again, bards tale is a riot. its probably worth it just cause it is so friggin funny. and you get a puppy. he digs up bones. its always worth it to have a puppy who digs up bones.

Re: XBox RPGs?
Wed, September 14, 2005 - 6:43 AMjade empire i feel is the best( eastiest) x box rpg when it comes to ability to learn it and get into it.
the star wars ones aren't bad but they haveatendency to freeze up on ya whenyou least want it to ( as to went you want it to)
morrowwind ..ehh... looks bad graphic wise and that alone annoys me..

Re: XBox RPGs?
Wed, September 14, 2005 - 2:06 PMi really like RPGs and am not a super advanced gamer. I really have enjoyed Fable & Morrowind (Game Of The Year Edition).
Fable doesn't take super long to play - but you can do lots of side quests, and has decent replay-ability. I would recommend it as a first foray into RPGS and it has pretty decent tutorials that could guide even a beginner through the game. It's fun since everything your character does impacts how he looks and how npcs react to him.
Morrowind you can spend a zillion hours and hours playing - but since it's so free form it can be frustrating for some people since there aren't as clear of quests to follow. It is however full of tons of options and possiblities - it's really a pretty amazing game!
I've heard Bard's Tale is a riot and it's on my list for sure :)

Re: XBox RPGs?
Wed, September 14, 2005 - 4:29 PMStar Wars - Knights of the Old Republic (or KOTOR for short) is supposed to be an awesome RPG. -

Re: XBox RPGs?
Thu, September 15, 2005 - 5:46 AMKOTOR 2 is better
but an annoyin thingto me is no one sems to notice your characters Obvious turnto the darkside. Forget that your skin turns a sickly color, gets veiny or that your using force lightning.
your "side kicks" help you do wrong even if they're suppose to be good guys. I hope in part 3 they make the side kicks aka companions more aware of the things going on.
the best part of the game is of course beating the game in ya( video gam e character..duh) undies and screencapping it :) -

Re: XBox RPGs?
Thu, September 15, 2005 - 4:27 AMHmmm... I think I'm leaining toward Jade Empire or perhaps the upcoming Fable: The Lost Chapters. I just wish she'd get herself a freakin PS2 so we could just lend her some RPGs we've actually had experience with. :p -

Re: XBox RPGs?
Thu, September 15, 2005 - 5:54 AMactually, no... the psx was never released in the US. however, the ps3 comes out sometime in 2006, which could be as late as second quarter... that's a little too long to wait I think.
