If I get into a gaming situtation where's it's high tension and after many repeated efforts can't seem to get my character through it I get kinda nutso. I start cursing and have actually pounded my keyboard on occasion *gasp*
Yesterday I got so upset that I couldn't get out alive from a certain point that after pounding the keyboard, cursing at my beau, I actually took the disk out of the cd-tray and tossed it into the great unknown of my house swearing never to play it again.
It's just a GAME! lighten up! But in the moment the frustration just overwhelms me... Do I need gaming anger management? eeks!

Re: Gaming Frustration?
Sat, July 16, 2005 - 4:27 PMThe ones I hate the most are where you MUST pass this god-awful bit because you're trapped there. And usually, either there's a timed thing going on or just something so fiddly that you must get it exactly right or you die. And you've just played ages so can't bear the thought of having to do it all again, so you're basically tired and a bit fed up playing but desperate to save. It's so soul destroying because you know you're going to have to just keep trying, over and over. Since I lost my cheat-code virginity things are a bit different. It's not that I've been using cheats but since I know they are there it has become simply a matter of pride to beat the game rather than some mad addiction thing. -

Sat, July 16, 2005 - 7:08 PMI got so frustrate with game had to walk way comeback in two days and beat it. The worse rent game for PS1 lease 6 years ago and game stop complete in beginning of stage couldn't play game. Resently had hard time in game couldn't get past stage had to restart stage beat it. I do that lot to throw controls out of frustration. -

Re: Gaming Frustration?
Sat, July 16, 2005 - 11:21 PMI hate jump puzzles the most. There's nothing so annoying as not being able to advance due to missing the 13th jump for the 59th time.
I can get a bit upset. I think its pretty common. but Itoo am prone to frustrated outbursts. Its actually kinda therepudic, because when you get it out of your system, you can actually let it go, because it is a game, and it doesn't matter.
I don't throw things though. too potentially pricey. -

Re: Gaming Frustration?
Mon, July 18, 2005 - 1:41 PMTwice I've been completely stuck in a game. Once in Ocarina of Time, when I went through the Water Palace in the wrong order and ran out of keys (don't ask me how this happened, I still have no idea), and once in Chrono Cross. I don't have a clue what happened there, either. Both times I've been so angry that I couldn't even start over. I've started over a little bit in OoT, but I lost interest in it, so I'll probably never beat it. Oh well. Mostly I refrain from throwing things, but I'll swear and complain quite a lot sometimes. -

Tue, July 19, 2005 - 9:14 PMRobin,
Ocarina's lava/volcano dungeon...I didnt know how to get to the boss and couldnt find the final key. I had to go online and look. What really pisses me off is when the FAQ files are so poorly done that its not helping me in the game or leads me in the wrong direction.

Re: Gaming Frustration?
Mon, July 18, 2005 - 12:06 PMWell, the one I remember most is an area in Prince of Persia:The Sands of Time. It's the part where you're practically done with the game, but you're in an elevator and have to fight off tons of zombies while trying to keep the stupid girl alive. I swear, if it wasn't for her being there, I would have passed it already. I five times each time I played, and always got closer each turn. But by the fifth try, I was so frustrated that I didn't even want to continue anymore even though I was getting closer. This was when it first came out. To this day, I haven't passed it. I gave up a long time ago. That's why I have so many old games lying around; there are parts I can't pass and just put them away to never play again, though I'm thinking of taking another crack at POP... -

Re: Gaming Frustration?
Mon, July 18, 2005 - 12:13 PMi usually find that when i get frustrated it hinders my performance. if i walk away for a while, go down & get some coffee, and come back later that night or the next day, what was taking me 40 or 50 tries takes me 4 or 5. -

Re: Gaming Frustration?
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 3:54 PMthis is so true. the next day i can always do it. except GTA, Vice City, the stupid helicopter thing. i loved it the first few times i did it then i realised it was going to take me quite awhile to get it sorted. AND it had a timer to it which meant i nearly had a heart attack coming up the home stretch of each failed attempt. so i just put it away and haven't played it again.
i think the fact i used to play it with a guy who i broke up with had sometime to do with it as well. didn't want to do anything that reminded me of him. -

do i feel like a DORK or what?
Wed, July 20, 2005 - 9:17 AMwellllll.... magically the diablo 2 disk reappeared.. so i had to know how bad the damage actually was.
I was on nightmare level and was just starting act 3. the spider cave was EASY on normal - yet on nightmare i got swarmed by uniques and must have died 15 times prior to my furious rage and tossing the disk. i was fortunate enough to be fiendish with the town portals so i could get to my body, but never successfully got to any of them - the damn spiders were surrounding the portals.
well - by the time i gave up there must have been 10 corpses... when i loaded it yesterday - i discovered all my super cool, rare and set stuff that i've been collecting for a game and a half were gone :-( the only thing i managed to make it out with was my fav shield... everything else is gone.
*le sigh* -

Re: do i feel like a DORK or what?
Wed, July 20, 2005 - 10:20 AMyeah--- any time you plan on corpse retrieving through reload, make sure you reload when you only have one corpse, because only one corpse will ever show up- the most recent one.
also, sometimes if you bail and hop back in, the uniques in each area will be different, so if there is only one particular kind which eats you alive every time, you can hopefully get a less lethal variant ;D
