I was reading the thread about dating non-gamers from a while back and then it started me thinking...
If both you and your SO are gaming junkies - do you often play together?
Any games that are especially fun for 2 player?
We've been having a blast playing Balder's Gate. Those stupid jump puzzles that might have previously driven me to toss the controller now have me laughing. After many unsuccessful tries through the puzzle jump from hell I thought - gee maybe our armor is weighing us down? Well we still haven't crossed the puzzle - but it's impossible not to crack up as your naked character plummets to his/her death... he he

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Mon, July 18, 2005 - 1:33 PMCouples gaming is fun! What we actually do most often is get together with another couple and play four-player games like Crystal Chronicles or Four Swords. It's like a nerdy double date. Couple gaming squared, even. Other two-player co-op games like Alien Hominid are fun, too.
Of course, I get pissed off when my boyfriend acts like a "backseat gamer" while I'm playing a one-player game, though... so there are downsides. -

Sun, September 4, 2005 - 10:36 PMWho DOESN'T hate the "backseat gamer"?

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 3:11 PMMy bf and I play on average of 3hrs on each weeknight and 10hrs on *free* weekends (aka no social plans)... and it is super wonderful.
I can't imagine dating someone I couldn't game with. -

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 3:41 PMi make it a point to take anyone im dating to play DDR within the first 4 dates. if she is repulsed by that then shes goes to the way side.
to this day, ive never dated anyone that had an interest in video games.

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Wed, July 20, 2005 - 4:45 AMPie and I love playing games together. And we also do the double-date with Crystal Chronicles and Four Swords thing.
One of our favorites right now is Donkey Konga the first. It is LOADS of fun to play together, and we can drag two other people into it as well if we want to. The sequel is alright and has some cool extra features, but the songs in the first one were MUCH better.
But the absolute greatest date game of all time has got to be Lego Star Wars. I shit you not. This game is freaking awesome. I am going to be SO sad when we beat it because we will never find anything this awesome again.
We're also fans of Alien Homonid. And we tried Samauri Warriors, but couldn't really get into it.. -

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Wed, July 20, 2005 - 10:40 AMi'm glad for all the recommendations! i thought the lego star wars looked really fun - i'll add that to our list for sure now! -

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Wed, July 20, 2005 - 10:48 AMjust don't bother with the gameboy version. it has far less nifty cool stuff than the ps2, xbox, or pc versions.
also, Lego Darth Maul is BAD ASS... and you can use him (or anyone) to kill Jar-Jar over and over and over and over and over........

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Wed, July 20, 2005 - 4:35 PMI play Metal Slugs 3 with my g/f sometimes. That's about all she'll play with me. If we could play the Sims 2 together, I'm sure she'd love it because that's all she plays when I'm not on my computer. Her and I also like playing Mario Party 6. That's always a fun game.

Re: Gaming as a couple?

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Sat, September 3, 2005 - 1:11 PMMy GF and I played COH a lot together and will play WOW once I get more time away from work. Being in the games industry it would be very difficult to date someone who di dnot like gaming or at the least understand my need to game. My GF is hardcore into WOW now, so usually she plays on the PC and I will play on the Xbox or 2nd computer. Lately it is our time away from each other, so we kick it and then will go game for a while, then kick it again.
We rarely play co-op or party games on the console. I have a feeling that more games will have that feature in the next gen so we may start playing console together more often down the road. -

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Tue, September 6, 2005 - 9:05 PMThis one may sound crazy but Star Wars Legos on Xbox is one of the coolest co-op style games to play with your boyfriend. I played with my all day last Sunday, we completed the game but there are still some more parts we need to find during Freeplay (a mode where you are able to use just about any character out there on any level). There's some levels where certain characters can only get to if they can jump hi or have a grapple hook. -

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Wed, September 7, 2005 - 3:05 PMyeah - we bought lego star wars based on this thread's recomendation and have had a blast playing it! :-) -

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Wed, September 7, 2005 - 6:58 PMIsn't it fantastic? We finished it, getting all of the kits and force bonuses and whatnot (opening the secret level as well) and now it' skind of sad that it's over cause it was SUCH a fun game. I mean sure, we could still play around and whack at things, but there's not really any mission left to accomplish. Overall a splendid game, and I REALLY hope they make another one for episodes 4-6.
** BEGIN SPOILER **
and if the secret area can be believed, they will
** END SPILER **
Right now I think the next co-op game we're looking forward is Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. We played the demo with a recent issue of Playstation Magazine and it seems like it'll be fun. Pie (Blissed) say she doesn't think she's very good at it, but I know that what we played in the demo was FAR easier with her than it was without. :) -

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Wed, September 7, 2005 - 7:04 PMI really hope the secret level is what it implies it is. That would be SO COOL!!!
I really didn't think I did well at all on the MK Demo, but I had fun... so I'm greatly in favor of our purchase of it.
Another good game for us is Crystal Chronicles, even as a double-date kind of game. It's a fun game for two as well. We spent an entire weekend "tech-free" & played that one. -
-
Re: Gaming as a couple?
Thu, September 8, 2005 - 4:07 AMI love that if we do a "tech-free" weekend, that does NOT imply that video games aren't allowed. hehehe -

Re: Gaming as a couple?
Thu, September 8, 2005 - 2:56 PMOk, I'm getting Lego Starwars now. You guys made it too hard to resist. And I'm not even a Star Wars fan! Now that's sayin' somethin'. -

Wed, September 14, 2005 - 10:56 AMI hear that. My man's good at games where you figure out shit. Luckily he's with me on fighting games like Mortal Kombat -Deception. I'm more into trying to beat his ass than figuring out how to get there. -
