That's right.
A pair of lovers and their good friend (or some unfortunate soul that was around them at the time) have died and gone to... an afterlife.
Where? Why? What happened to your partner?
You'll have to find out, while trying to figure out other mysteries and avoid being destroyed or thwarted in your efforts to reunite with your love.
In this game everyone will be either one of a pair of deceased lovers or their good friend (yes, there will be several groups of three characters to choose from). The pairs are known from movies and books. And, there will be a twist that you will find out at game (something that all Twin Realms games will have in common in the future).

This game will be as serious or lighthearted as each player wishes to make it. There will be elements of romance, tragic romance, jealousy, treason, love, passion, confusion, loss, frustration, comedy, tragedy, drama and all those other things that make love and death so much fun.

As far as system goes, it will have a rock-paper-scissors base with a couple of minor twists and modifiers.

Gamer guys will offer gifts, glowing praise, or their left nut for their chance at you. They’ll even start online threads about how hot you are based on your leet gaming skills. ;-) However, while it seems that most gamer guys would GREATLY prefer to date a gamer, they feel that they are few and far between, so frequently end up dating someone with not-so-similar interests.

My question is: what is the gamer girls' take on this? Regardless of whether you’re looking for a boy or a girl, would you prefer to date a gamer than a non-gamer? Do you frequently (or ever) find yourself settling for a non-gamer because it's too hard to find someone with shared interests? Or are there a plethora of drooling gamer fanboys waiting in line for their chance to... ahem... sip from your grail?

It is a fantasy-medieval type of world with faeries, demons, dwarves and elves. The game is being run by Michael Birkes, who has run several games at GameStorm, as well as an 8-year long Vampire Chronicle.

This event is free, and all experience levels are welcome. Due to some of the mature themes in the game, we do ask for players to be at least 16 years old.

You have a choice of playing a major character (heavily in the plot) or a minor character (kinda in the background, good if you'd like to observe more, or if you're a little shy, or it's your first LARP and/or you don't want a major role). Just let us know what you'd like to play.

We are still finalizing the venue, but the game will be between 6:00PM-11:00PM on January 3rd. In order to ensure you have a character, the ST/GM will need your RSVP by December 29th. You can RSVP at our event calendar: http://shaglarp.com/modules.php?name=GCalendar&file=viewday&y=2009&m=1&d=3&e=15
If you'd rather not register on the site to RSVP for the event, you can also email admin@shaglarp.com and let us know you'll be there, and what type character you'd like to play. Your information will be passed to the ST.

First off, HIIII! I just joined this tribe and I've never made a new post.
My name is Yamê, I'm 20, I'm not too big on gaming in general (I play some stuff casually but usually the games belong to my brother or husband) but I was addicted to WoW for 2 years (from release til slightly before Burning Crusade). I haven't played an MMO since, but after over a year without WoW I really feel like playing a new MMO.

So I'm sure all of us MMO watchers have been following Warhammer or even Age of Conan, or maybe the release of Wrath in WoW. I am considering all of these, but as for the first two I am disappointed with a lot of things (it so far appears to me that they are over-hyped and under-...contented? lol). As for Wrath, it sounds really good, but I'm reluctant to go back to WoW and will only do it as a "last resort," simply because I want something new! I know I know, even after BC it's changed a lot, but expansions are not enough newness and freshness for me. I need a whole different game.

I don't know if I am alone in this, but for those of you who feel the same way, who want to check out a new MMO of those coming out this year, in case you feel the others are coming up short, there is one (quit ranting already!);

lo and behold,
AION!

Most people I've told about this never heard of it. It seems like not many people know about it outside of Korea, where it's being developed by NCsoft (same as Guild Wars). It's got kind of a GW-meets-WoW aesthetic from the videos I've seen, which is pretty much what I wanted... different enough from WoW to be new, but similar enough to WoW for me to enjoy.

The following things REALLY turned me on to it (with links to videos so you can see what I'm talking about):

1. graphics: game looks AMAZING! waaaayyy better than WoW (as it should be, since WoW is "old" by now), waaayyy better than videos I've seen of Warhammer, maybe not better than Age of Conan but Age of Conan is gonna be a 40gig monster with extremely high system requirements. this baby has very low system requirements to still look awesome...
A "trailer:"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaV3NcUtddA

2. seamless world: one of the things I most hated about GW (and hate about Age of Conan beta so far) was having to load between areas. WoW did a great job with this, having a pretty much seamless world with just loading zones into instances and between the two continents. I heard Aion will be like that as well, which really adds to the feel of the game and takes away frustration

3. flying: another thing WoW did right (though I never got to experience this since it only came out in BC). but instead of flying mounts, you will have wings. and you will get them at lvl 10. flight will be timed (and timing will increase as you level), but it's still a great concept. also, it will have flying combat. how awesome is that?
Flight Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBQxhsvSgeE

4. character creation: sooooooo much customization! I was psyched for AoC partly because of this, but I like the customization of Aion better (from the videos I've seen so far). you basically get sliders for everything, so you can make your char really unique.
Expanded Customization:
Character Creation (before expanded customization was implemented):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO7IpqOemHc
here you can get a better look at some different female options, but keep in mind this was before they implemented a lot of new sliders, seen on the expanded customization video above

5. awesome animations: the animations on this thing are SO POLISHED! you just gotta see them
Asmodian Female Emotes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY8IkKjV1Pk

6. prettiest sceneries ever!: ok, this goes with the graphics thing but I just had to reiterate it

7. lvl 50 cap: not too high, not too low. if the leveling works kind of at WoW pace, that's roughly ideal for me.

8. lore: not as developed and complex as other games I'm seeing, but still cool enough of a concept, which puts the basic setup of the game kind of where WoW or Warhammer are. there are only 2 races, but they are separate and enemy factions. one lives in the northern continent where it's cold and dark and the other lives in the southern continent where it's more like earth. asmodians (the northern race) can have horns, weird-looking feet, and elf ears, weird skin colors, and bat wings, and the elyos look more like humans (boring!) and will have angel wings. there's a dragon race also, but this one will be unplayable.

9. class mechanics: once again seems close enough to WoW to be ideal and different enough to be new. there are the typical 4 classes (warrior, scout, mage, and healer) with 2 subclasses within each (fighter and knight, ranger and assassin, wizard and elementalist, priest and chanter, respectively)

So, that's about all I know of this game right now. For all this talk and excitement, I really have no idea how good it's gonna be. It's in closed beta in Korea, and will be open by next month, but only there. It will probably release in Korea before we even get a beta in this side of the world, so bleh. But it's estimated that somewhere around the second half of 2008 we will be seeing this game over here.

I am personally not into the typical oriental MMO like Ragnarok, or I dunno, Sword of the New World, or even Final Fantasy, and a lot of my friends are telling me this will be a farmer, gook MMO just like all other MMOs coming from Korea, where you will farm monsters for all eternity and there will be no endgame. But so far it doesn't look like it. I am hoping I have the right impression of this. I hear the feel and mechanics of the game is a lot like WoW, and I am hoping this is true.

I hope the length of this post didn't turn anybody off (I just wanted to post as much information as I had), and that I didn't make too many typos (I am typing this in a hurry, believe it or not). If there are any questions, I probably won't know the answer but ask anyway because I might. Also if you want to see other videos and don't feel like looking for them I'd be glad to post more.

Sorry to sound like a sales rep for this damn game, but it's just that from what I've heard so far it seems really perfect.

Maybe it's just some of the MMO's and games I've played but... seriously, can we have a chick that wears pants? When I was playing FFXI, every pair of bottoms my character would put on either turned into a bikini bottom or short shorts. I really don't see how those could be helpful while tanking...

What really spawned this frustration (and mind you it was just an annoyance, but it could spark conversation) however, was browsing around Kotaku and seeing they had some info on the new Conan game, and slapped right up there was sexy naked babe. Yeah it's Conan, but it's also an MMO - you're trying to appeal to a wide audience here. Honestly think that image makes female gamers flock to the game? So, I went to check out the game's actual site, and surprise surprise, more thong-clad female "warriors". Most of the in-game images were male, but from what I can tell, the female characters are running around in bras and furry thongs (which just would not be comfortable, lets think about this here).

Would it be so much to ask for at least a sensible clothing option?

And I know there are plenty of ladies out there in the digital realm who had good clothes for what they were doing (Aya from PE for example , wore jeans, shirt and a leather jacket with boots! Made sense when running about after crazy mitochondria beasties.)

Anyone else care to share either offenses or decent costumes from games?

This is huge for me, since I have always been the biggest fangirl... I got a first run PS2 the day it released, I've diligently supported you against all the XBox kids... and yet.... I'm sorry Playstation, but you've disappointed me.

PSP.... meh, it was your first real break into the portable market. We can forgive that. There are even some good games for it now, even if it's really obsolete next to the DS and the UMD movies are never going to make it main stream. But the PS3? I mean... come on. The price tag is way to high, and there was almost nothing released with it that made it a worthwhile purchase. I'm still waiting for Heavenly Sword (which now reports about controls are shaky) and White Knight. Will FFXIII even be on the PS3? You seem to be losing all of your exclusive lines.

Playstation, it's time to shape up. You are lucky there is still the red ring of death issue, and that the Wii is so hard to come by.
I think the possibilities of community created levels will be interesting; it will be what makes or breaks the game. I'm enthralled with the whole concept of "all the objects are made from real world items", such as a felt tree, or a wooden block. The graphics rendering is insane; if you can round up a larger picture of the characters or the levels, there is detail covering everything. The "sack-boys" are totally customizable as well, which will lead to hilarity I'm sure.

Well, I really was desperate to play an MMO game, and since the RPG is what dominates that role, I took a whack at it. I WAS NOT paying a monthly fee on top of buying the game, so the only option left to me of a recent game was Guild Wars. I ended up getting Guild Wars Factions because of the two new jobs added.

So I played for a few hours totally lost and REALLY sucking with my character! I finally reached level 9 and was tired of dying and sucking overall. The only thing that kept me from getting insanely bored with the game was the fact that it was an MMO and that I wasn't paying an arm and a leg to play it with these people. So I started a new character, got to level 9 in 3 hrs and am finally enjoying it now (I don't dye practically every fight now :P ).

So I just wanted to say thanks for encouraging me to keep looking for one that wasn't so bad.

*On a side note, I think what really helped me not throw the game out was the fact that you don't wait to hit, you just hit. Major points for that!

BTW, I could use some pointers! I didn't even know that the weapon you choose could make a difference in how strong you fight. I just found that out. See! Complete RPG newb. :P

Am I the only girl gamer on the planet that doesn't like RPG's, or is there another one out there?

My biggest thing with RPG's is I don't like reading games, I like playing them. Don't get me wrong, I do like a good story, but what turns me on to a game is the real gameplay. A good story is an excellent compliment to the game. I also like instant action. Turn based fighting is very unappealing to me. One other qualm I have with it is I don't usually like a game to be too complicated. I don't want to have to read the manual to be able to understand how to play the game. I just want to be able to install it and play it by ear. I rarely use the manual. And if I do, it's to look up something quickly. It's used as a reference rather than a guide.

Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with the genre, this is just my personal taste. It's one of those love/hate kind of things. I've heard people say the same thing about FPS. I personally highly enjoy them.

The weird part about all this is I like RTS games, and that's almost bordering on an RPG. For some reason I will occasionally buy an RPG because I want to like it, but I always end up dissapointed. Anyway, I'm rambling and it's late. Let me know what you think.

Is anyone playing this right now? SO fun. Seriously, if you've ever dreamed of being a rockstar this game helps you live out your fantasy :D

I don't play guitar, but I FEEL like I do. The screen set up is alot like Amplitude but instead of multiple rows there's only one. The buttons on screen are color coded to correspond to the buttons on the neck of the guitar controller. It's fairly easy to get the hang of, too. The music is actually pretty good considering they're covers of regular songs. Even if you don't particularly like the song, when you're playing, you get SO into it!

It's about $70 and includes the game and the guitar controller, but I think it's worth it. Go halfsies with someone. I feel like a damn advertisement, but I don't care. I need to spread the word.

Hi everyone, I'm Graham.

I'm here to find programmers, artists and other persons with game developement knowledge. A few friends and i are making an RTS game set in the year 2055. Its going to be a simple game. Similar to COmmand and Conquer where you just build and go. No need to create tons of workers to harvest minerals, food, gas... only a few to build. We're hoping to create a full 3D engine but a 2D w/ some nice 3D effects would be nice.

Right now i dont want to divulge any information but we have the storyline completed. We also have some concept art being created as i write this. Also some gameplays elements have been worked out. We cant do all that much more until we find an engine to run the game. We are hoping to create our own but none of us have any programming skills.

If you know and are experience enough to create a game engine in C++ please post some of your info.

Other help needed
- 2D-3D artist
- Additional concept artists
- Help with sound and music
- EVERYTHING.

We are in the earliest stages right now. But we are organized. If you want more info or are interested in helping post a message or email me.

Thanks!

Peter Burkowski walked into Friar Tuck's Game Room in Calumet City, IL, at 8:30 P.M. on April 3rd, 1982. Fifteen minutes later, he was out of "continues"—the man was killed by a video game. Just before his death, Burkowski had popped a few quarters into an arcade game called Berzerk. The coroner officially listed the death as a heart attack—a heart attack induced by a physiological reaction (the high blood pressure, the adrenaline surge, the stiff nipples) from playing Berzerk. Burkowski is considered to be the first official video game–related death in history, but he certainly won't be the last. So put off your deal with the Reaper for a few more minutes by putting down the controller and discovering how your obsession with high scores might kill more than just your social life.
A 28-year-old Korean gamer known only as "Lee" died after playing Starcraft for 49 hours straight in an Internet café in Daegu in August 2005. Cause of death: heart failure. Not surprisingly, Lee had recently lost his job after constantly skipping work to play video games.
Shawn Woolley, a 21-year-old Wisconsin man, shot himself on Thanksgiving morning 2001 while playing EverQuest. Woolley, who was overweight, lived alone, and worked in a pizza restaurant, was in the habit of logging 12 hours a day in the game. Red Flag #1: When an EverQuest "friend" of his betrayed his trust and stole all of his in-game money, Woolley broke down and cried about it for weeks afterwards. Red Flag #2: Woolley was overweight, lived alone, and worked in a pizza restaurant.
On October 22, 2002, Lien Wen-cheng died of an apparent game overdose in central Taiwan. Lien started what would be his final online gaming session at 10:30 P.M. on Thursday night, only to be found 32 hours later by an Internet café member on the floor of the café's toilet, foaming at the mouth and bleeding from the nose like a '70s rock star in his prime.
#
A 24-year-old South Korean man, listed in the papers only as "Kim," died in an Internet café in Kwangju after playing for a whopping 86 hours straight. "The only breaks he had where when he briefly stopped to buy cigarettes and use the toilet," said Detective Hong Gun-hee. Sounds like one of our Everybody Loves Raymond DVD marathons.
On June 8, 2005, Qui Chengwei, 41, stabbed Zhu Caoyuan after he learned that Zhu had sold a rare "dragon sabre" that had belonged to Qui in the game Legend of Mir 3. Qui had won the sword in the game in February and then lent it to Zhu, who then sold the virtual sword for 7,200 yuan (about $870). Qui went to the police to report the theft, but was told that the sword was not real property, so it wasn't protected by law. Frustrated, Qui went to Zhu's house and stabbed him in the chest. As if this guy already didn't have a life, Qui was handed a lifetime prison sentence.
In 2003, a 28-year-old man was found slumped at his computer on early Saturday morning in a game center in Hong Kong's Yuen Long district after he'd apparently played Diablo II since Friday evening. Police found his body around 1 A.M., approximately five hours after he'd started playing the game. Eight months earlier, a 17-year-old was found dead in the same district, also after having run with Diablo II.

Good afternoon, folks! I've recently been hired to help a family start a new gaming club/cyber cafe company. I'm writing here because I wanted to run the basic idea for the club past other gamers and get a feel for what the masses think. The owners have a new kind of idea for how the club's going to be run and it's pretty unusual. I had a big long (really long) post about it that I was planning to put on here, but after a suggestion from one of the mods here on Tribe I posted it with Yahoo instead and now I'm just posting the link. So, please, if you've got some time, check out the page, read about the club and let me know what you think! Thanks for your time and take care!

A few songs/artists I'm really into ATM:

Tube & Berger feat. Chrissie Hynde - Straight Ahead (ext. mix)
Tori Amos - Tales of A Librarian album
Alicia Keys - any song
Joss Stone - any song (the girl that did the GAP commercial)
Norah Jones - any song
Black Eyed Peas - Pump It
Kelis - My Milkshake
Benassi Bros. feat. Sandy - Illusion (Sfaction Mix) I love this song!
The Shirelles - Dedicated To The One I Love, Please Mr. Post Man, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow
Betty Everette - It's In His Kiss

It's the 'holding the drool back' look. Why do I feel this way? I buy something and get it home, immediately start playing it and then it's frustrating and I hate it but I love it and keep playing it. Then it's 3am and I look at myself in the mirror, red eyed with my hair all lank and I think, my god that game just ate 8 hours of my life. What am I addicted to? Is it the adrenaline of getting to the next level? I'm a coder so I have a real dogged need to 'solve the problem', but still, don't I do enough of that all day? There's something very different about games and it's much more like a physical craving than it should be...
